Conference Call

Pre-meeting thoughts
This week (June 13-19) there are 4 Illinois Conference related events for youth

Habitat/Volunteer Camp – Tower Hill – 36 participants
Regional Youth Event – Defiance College in Ohio – 31 participants
Junior High Sports Camp –Pilgrim Park – registration unknown
Illinois Conference Annual Meeting – 20 participants
(More on this later)

Keith opened us in prayer at 10:10 am

March Retreat Thoughts – 50 participants. Talent was wonderful (Steve Case and Bryan Sirchio) Commotion in Motion theme really cool. Steve’s flight was late – Bryan filled in very well – Lots of moving and shaking—Dance was very popular – after Lunch on Saturday the group with Steve were almost sleeping with lunch comas – Several adults commented that they were so happy we did this as they don’t have other retreat opportunities during the year --- We wonder if the date is the best but don’t really know a better one. Next year March 11-13, 2011 at Pilgrim Park (reserved already) No theme or talent yet.

ICYI is going to have regular funding (25% of Strengthen the Church offering) for the next two years. We also will have the opportunity and responsibility to fund other youth ministry funding requests from conference churches and ministries. Kirk, Lori and Jonathan will work on putting together an application draft (1 page – with clear ideas about what will be funded) for the August 28 meeting

Moving forward – we would like to form a youth council to oversee events (like the Spring Retreat and other events) and a leader group to oversee youth leader training and networking opportunities. (Kirk has a real passion on the training end.) We need to make connections with youth and adults about Illinois Conference Youth Ministries to encourage more participation in leadership and events. We are looking forward and planning on using technology to make a really large geographic conference smaller.

We also need to equip each new (and continuing) ICYI member with our mission statement and ICYI resolution. This will help us stay on the same page as we grow ICYI and youth ministry throughout the conference. We need to have continuous follow-up to keep connected and active.

This coming week we will have the opportunity to connect with Illinois Conference Youth at the many events. Kirk will be at Habitat Camp and Illinois Conference Meeting. Jayne will be a Regional Youth Event. Lori is getting in contact with Suzy Daly from Sports Camp to see if it is OK for her to visit. Kirk is leading the “Why are we here anyway?” workshop – revised from 2004 – that was the beginning of lots of energy that created ICYI.

Our next meeting is August 28. We’d like to have it at Pilgrim Park. Illinois Conference is also a possibility. Kirk will be in touch with Tara about PP. We’re also going to pursue ways technology can help those who can’t travel to still be present. (this call was free on freeconferencall.com. Skype is also a free conference call possibility and a free way to have one person present on video per skype account (internet service required)

Lori closed us in prayer.

Meeting adjourned at 11:05 am
